The Best Maternity Pillow – 2020 Reviews and Buyer’s Guide
For me, finding the perfect sleeping position was incredibly difficult while I was pregnant. I’m normally a stomach sleeper, which is close to impossible after the first trimester. Even back sleepers have a hard time getting comfortable. This ends up leading to lack of sleep, frustration and exhaustion.
Nothing is more important when you’re pregnant than being able to find ways to get comfortable while sleeping. Pregnancy pillows can definitely help in that area. However, you will want one that provides the most comfort and is the perfect length.
When I was pregnant, I found some of the best maternity pillows, and I would love to share with you what I found. Some of them are better than others, but I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5 picks. I’ll admit too that I felt amazing after finally being able to get a full nights sleep and waking fully refreshed to take on the world.

Maternity Cushion Reviews
This maternity pillow was by far one of my favorites. I loved that it was perfect for using while pregnant and then also for nursing after I had my daughter. It’s incredibly soft and comfortable. Once I laid my head down at night I was able to drift off almost immediately. If I ended up waking up during the night to switch positions, it was done easily and effortlessly, and then I could go right back to dreaming. It also comes with a machine washable cover that is soft and adorable. I loved this pillow!
My favorite feature on this pillow is that it is huge and still didn’t take up the whole bed. When I first saw the size of this pillow I expected a lot of complaining from my husband, followed by him sleeping on the couch. That isn’t what I experienced though. The pillow is perfectly sized to give me comfort, support, and a warm embrace while sleeping, while allowing my husband to take out his fair share of the bed as well.
Overall, this is a fantastic pillow. The issue with fluffing it up at first didn’t really phase me, as I realize that it came in a vacuum sealed bag. For someone who is further along than I was, however, it could be a bit of a hassle to have to do that. I would suggest having your spouse, friend, or family member help you with that part because the maternity pillow is huge.
This is another one of my favorites. I absolutely love the shape of this one. It’s a U-shape pregnancy pillow, but both ends of the pregnancy pillow curve inward making it easy to support your knees and feet. Because of the U-shape it doesn’t matter which side you sleep on or if you need to change positions during the night. I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud when I used this pillow. The shape of the pillow’s arms give lasting support for both your back and your belly.
This pillow is the perfect size pillow for me, and that’s what I loved so much about it. It’s definitely amazing for women of shorter stature. I was able to comfortably adjust my feet without kicking an extra two feet of pillow out of my way. There was enough room left over, however, that I could stretch out comfortably and my feet wouldn’t dangle off the pillow either. This is a truly fantastic pillow!
I did really like this pillow, but I’m 5’3″ so the fact that it’s shorter doesn’t bother me at all. I could definitely see where a taller woman may not find it as supporting as they would like, though. The biggest issue that I had with this maternity pillow is that the instructions tell you to put it in the dryer to fluff it up after unwrapping it from the packaging. This can be a problem for people that don’t have very large dryers. I chose to hand fluff it instead and it worked just fine.
This pillow is another amazing one for getting a full night’s sleep. It’s a bit longer than the last pillow allowing me to stretch out and get even more comfortable. The full support on both sides of my body was fantastic. During my pregnancy I needed additional lumbar support and this pillow definitely provided that. It also never clumps up or flattens, so an extra bonus feature!
I have to say that I have never slept better than when sleeping with this pillow. The size and shape of it were perfect for me, and again it didn’t take up so much space that the husband felt a need to sleep on the couch. I believe it had something to do with the stuffing, but the feel of it was much akin to sleeping on a cloud. I drifted off to sleep almost immediately upon my head touching the pillow. When I woke up the first morning after sleeping with this pillow I realized that I hadn’t woken up once in the middle of the night to reposition. I had literally gotten the best sleep I had ever had in my entire pregnancy.
This really is a great pillow, but I suggest getting extra pillow covers for it and not washing the pillow itself. I had followed the instructions down to the letter and the pillow still ended up shrinking. Overall, a really great pillow though to help with those sleepless nights! It definitely belongs at the top of the list for best pregnancy pillow.
This C-shaped pillow is smaller and therefore doesn’t require as much bed space to use it in. I was able to use it on the couch even. It’s very comfortable and light, so when I needed to roll to my other side it was very easy to take it with me. One thing that I really enjoyed about this pregnancy pillow is that it didn’t trap the heat in, like the U-shaped pillows did. As someone who was pregnant during the summer, this was definitely a plus for me.
My favorite feature was the lack of trapping in the heat, but I also really loved that it was so lightweight and easy to maneuver if I needed to flip to the other side. Because I have a preference for front and back support I did need a couple additional pillows in front, but it wasn’t as huge a hassle as it would have been had I only had regular pillows to sleep with. It is definitely a great pillow and would be perfect for the pregnant woman that finds herself sweating all of the time due to hormones.
This is a pretty fantastic pregnancy pillow. My preference, based on my own pregnancy experience, is for the U-shaped pillows because they gave the necessary support that I needed for the front side of my body and the back. This one, however, is still a fantastic pillow. As a matter of fact I still use it at times for my regular body pillow because I no longer need that support and it doesn’t hold in all of my body heat.
This comfortable pregnancy pillow has an hour glass figure to it to help add extra support and comfort to your knees, back, elbows, shoulders, neck, and stomach. It is an excellent body pillow that I absolutely loved. I liked how flexible it was. It made me switching positions an easy maneuver.
When I sleep on my left side I always have to have my arm straight up by my ear, but when I sleep on my right side I like my arms tucked in tight. With this body pillow it made both positions extra comfortable. Took less than a few seconds to find that sweet spot and drift back into peaceful slumber. I also aligns your hips so that there is no stress on your hip joins. This is one great pillow!
My favorite feature on this pillow was the hour glass shape. The way that the arms of the pillow are aligned, it helped to keep my hips perfectly aligned as well. That was a huge bonus for me because toward the end of my pregnancy it felt like my hips were constantly popping out of their socket. This pillow allowed me to sleep comfortably without having to worry about my hips, and I never once felt pain in them while using this pregnancy pillow.
This is truly an excellent pillow. The seam portion was kind of a drag, but when I purchased some back up pillow cases I noticed that they were built a little different and the seam didn’t become an issue when I used the back up ones instead of the generic one that came with the pillow. I would recommend this pillow to women of every shape and size. It worked great for my short frame, but I noticed there was a lot of extra room for a taller woman to stretch out on. All-in-all a great pillow.
The Best Maternity Pillow
The Comfort U Total Body Support Pillow was definitely the best one in my opinion. The comfortable positions that it allowed me to place myself in were phenomenal. It is definitely the best maternity pillow.
I have honestly never gotten a better night’s sleep than when I was using the Comfort U Total Body Support Pillow. I had purchased extra pillow cases, fluffed it up really good before using it, and enjoyed sleeping in the warm embrace of the most comfortable pillow that I’ve ever used. My husband enjoyed that it didn’t force him to sleep on the couch due to its size and I would even catch him cuddling up to it at times.

How to Find the Best Pregnancy Pillow
The best pregnancy pillow is one that will provide hours of comfort and allow you to get a good nights sleep. Because, let’s face it, the added exhaustion during pregnancy is not fun to deal with. Here are some ideas for finding the best maternity pillow.
Shape of the Pillow
There are a few different shapes that you can use, and each one comes with its own benefit. The C-shaped pillow wraps around your body in the back. The top part of the C cradles your head while the bottom part fits comfortably between your knees for any added support that you might need.
Pregnancy pillows that are U-shaped also wrap around your body, but come down the front and the back of your body. The middle point of the U is where you place your head, the front part comes down for you to cuddle with and tuck between your knees, and the back part adds support to your back. This type of pillow allows you to adjust your sleeping position and always have a pillow available for which ever position is the most comfortable.
Softness and Texture
Some pregnancy pillows are built just like regular pillows for your head, filled with cotton. Others are memory foam. Which ever one you choose should be what feels best to you. The memory foam ones can be thicker and help to hold in body heat.
When choosing a high-quality pregnancy pillow you want to make sure to check out the reviews. You will want to avoid any pillow that has gained a reputation for going flat, being too firm or too soft, or not being adjustable.
If you look at all of these features for the best pregnancy pillow, you will end up with a pillow that makes you feel as if you are sleeping on a cloud. You will wake in the morning feeling fully rested and your body will stay healthy to keep up the process of creating the miracle that is growing inside of you.
Whatever pillow you choose, be sure to think about the specific type of support that your body needs. Most of these pillows would be excellent choices if you need additional sciatica relief, knee support, hip, back, or stomach support. If you want all of that and to feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud, definitely go with the Comfort U Total Body Support Pillow.
