When to sharpen your blades

If you begin to find it more difficult to cut through the wood, it may be because your blades just aren’t as sharp as they use to be. Pay attention to the difficulty you may have, the more difficult it is, the less sharp your blades probably are.

How to sharpen a chainsaw using an electric sharpener
The first thing you should do is make sure you’re informed about the aspects of the chainsaw. This means you should measure your chainsaw blade before using the electric sharpener. Most times the measurements will be provided on the box your chainsaw came in.
You should position the electric sharpener tool properly. During operations, it may be best to set up your sharpener on the ground. Some sharpeners also come as bench-mounts which are firmly held on a workbench by a vise.
Install the sharpening stone. You must have precise and correct measurements, as stated in step 1. With correct measurements, the stone should fit in the gap between the teeth of the chainsaw. There are different types of sharpening stones and it’s important to get the stone that fits your chainsaws specifications. The stone is usually 3/16 inches.
Swiveling is the next thing you need to do after installing the sharpening stone. Most angles are usually between 0 degrees and 60 degrees, but some may even need to go up to 80.
Angle the blades. You can adjust the blade tooth angle in the chainsaw by loosening the knob on the chainsaws holder. The knob should be moved in different directions, positive or negative.
Adjust the depth. This is the most important step. Not adjusting the depth properly may cause the grinder on the sharpener to cut too deep, resulting in a damaged blade rather than a sharpened one.
Time to Sharpen! Slowly lower the grinder wheel onto the blade’s first tooth. Keep in mind that when it makes contact, there will be sparks. After grinding down on it for a while, lift the grinder and check to see if there is a shiny finish. If there is, you’ve done your first tooth. After you’ve done your first set of complete teeth, you need to readjust the grinder. If you set it to 20 degrees negative, you must set it to 20 degrees positive for the next set of teeth.
When you are completely done sharpening each tooth on both sides, give yourself a pat on the back! You’ve sharpened your chainsaw successfully using an electric sharpener for the first time. Now it will be much easier to cut your wood! The struggle is over. Hard work pays off.
