What is a Pellet Grill?
With so many options for grilling, it can be difficult to determine which one is right for you. There’s charcoal, gas, smokers, and even smokeless grills.
But not all grills were created equally. Your choice of what type of grill to purchase can greatly impact the flavor of your food, as well as how easy it is to cook it.
For an easy to use option that will give your food a perfect, wood-fired taste, try a pellet grill.
What is a Pellet Grill?
At a basic level, a pellet grill functions just like any other grill. You burn something in order to create heat, and then you place the food on racks over the heat.
What makes these grills unique, is that instead of burning charcoal, gas, or wood chips, they are fueled by wood pellets.
Quality pellets are made entirely from hardwood trees, such as hickory, applewood, mesquite, and cherrywood. In that sense, they’re a lot like wood chips or logs, however they’re much more efficient. They won’t burn up as quickly yet they give the exact same flavor.
How Does it Work?
These grills use pellets for fuel in a similar way to charcoal and wood fired grills. With all three options, you have a fuel source that you have to ignite, let heat up, and the monitor throughout cooking. This process creates amazing flavor, but it’s a pain to monitor. You have to move around coals or logs, and add more whenever the heat goes down.
The great thing about pellet grills is that they eliminate some of that hassle. You’ll still have to monitor the amount of pellets, but these grills have a hopper system that feeds the pellets into the grill automatically. That means you don’t have to worry about adding more wood directly to the heat. As long as the hopper has pellets, the grill will take care of that for you.
With the hopper loaded, it’s a simple matter of selecting your temperature. The grill will control things from there, adding in pellets as needed to maintain whatever temperature you’ve selected. This eliminates all the guess work, and gives you more control over how you cook your food.
A New Way to Grill
It helps to think of a pellet grill as more of a multi-cooker. These devices can grill, smoke, and even be used as a convection oven, all thanks to the wood pellet system. And no matter how you decide to cook your food, you’ll know it will taste great becuase of all the hardwood smoke.
So no matter what your skill level or what your preffered method, a pellet grill has something that can appeal to any grill enthusiast.
